Transportation in Kyrgyzstan

Urban transportation in Kyrgyzstan is provided by minibuses, buses, taxis and trolleybuses. The most preferred transportation option is minibuses called “marşrutka”. Marshrutkas, which are open between 06.00 and 21.00, are one of the easiest and most economical ways to travel.

Trolleybuses are a means of transportation that is a mixture of trams and buses and is used in all cities. There is no transportation card used for public transportation in the country; Fees are paid in cash. Taxi fares in Kazakhstan are also more affordable than in most countries. For this reason, taxis are also preferred for long distances.

Transportation from Bishkek Airport to the City Center:

The distance between Bishkek Airport and the city center is approximately 25 km. Since there is no public transportation from the airport to the city center, you can consider taxi or car rental alternatives.

You can reach the city center in approximately 40 minutes with licensed taxis located outside the airport terminal, depending on the traffic density.

Renting a car is one of the most preferred ways since there is no public transportation alternative.

Bishkek

Bishkek, the capital of Kazakhstan, is also the largest city in the country. Things You Need to Know Before Going to Kyrgyzstan

  • Workplaces are generally closed between 13.00 and 14.00 on weekdays and Saturdays. On Sundays, unlike other countries, you can find open markets and workplaces.
  • If you are going to stay in Kazakhstan for more than 5 business days, you must notify the relevant institutions.
  • Since most of the signs are written in the Cyrillic alphabet, you can keep a dictionary with you or download a dictionary application to your phone.
  • Although the currency is Som, Dollars and Euros are also valid at tourist shopping points.
  • Although taxi prices are affordable, you can bargain.
  • It is recommended to absolutely visit Doldoy and Osh markets in Bishkek.
